Students impress selling their products on Mansfield Market

Posted onPosted on 21st Sep

Barnsley College students studying at the Mansfield Education Hub took part in their first Mansfield Enterprise Project — designing, marketing and selling products on Mansfield Market Place.

As part of their Foundation Learning Study Programme, students were tasked to design and make their own products, which they would then sell to the public.

They worked together to create products including chocolate bouquets, wax melts, framed prints and ornamental jars. They also arranged a name the teddy and guess the number of sweets in the jar games as well as a raffle for customers to win a hamper of goodies.

The Mansfield Enterprise Project was implemented in the students’ study programme to aid developing employability and entrepreneurial skills and to encourage growth of organisation, communication, confidence, and numeracy skills. The project-based Foundation Learning course sees students take part in ongoing practical projects throughout the academic year.

Access to Learning teacher at Mansfield Education Hub, Sarah Adair, said: “For some students this project was completely out of their comfort zone but, with encouragement, many of them were soon selling their products to the public. Their behaviour and professional conduct made them a credit to Mansfield Education Hub and Barnsley College.

“Staff are proud of the students and for making a profit of £100, which will be put towards their end-of-year trip.”
