Mansfield Town confirmed media reports late on Tuesday evening that that winger/forward Sam Clucas had signed for Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee.

The club said the Spireites improved their initial bid for the player, which was rejected last week.

The club said Clucas made it clear during discussions that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract when his current deal expired at the end of the season and wished to further his career.

The Stags said the transfer would allow manager Paul Cox to further strengthen his squad.
