Mansfield Town have signed experienced goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley on loan from Newport County until the end of the season – their fourth signing of a keeper this season.

The 30-year-old, an ex-England youth international, has made over 250 appearances in his career.

Manager Adam Murray said: “We feel that by bringing in Lenny, he will add much-needed experience, organisation and communication to our team.

“Lenny’s experience will also help develop Sascha [Studer] and it’s a position in which we’ve lacked experience since the loss of Alan Marriott.”

He added: “We’re producing high levels of performance without getting the results we deserve at the minute.

“As we all know, results are the bottom line. I’m more than confident these results will come.”

The club has not said whether Adam Smith, on loan from Leicester City, is still at One Call Stadium.

Born in Twickenham, West London, Pidgeley began his career in the academy ranks at Chelsea. He worked under Claudio Ranieri, Brendan Rodgers and Jose Mourinho during his time at Stamford Bridge and made two first team appearances – being understudy to regular shot-stoppers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini.

Having also gained senior experience from loan spells at Watford and Millwall, he joined the latter permanently in June 2006 and spent three seasons at The Den, during which he clocked up 65 appearances in all competitions.

Pidgeley then enjoyed season-long stays at Carlisle United, Bradford City and Exeter City, before penning a deal with Newport County in August 2012.

He made his debut for the Exiles in a memorable game against the Stags at One Call Stadium on the opening day of the 2012/13 season – a campaign which was to end in glory as Newport beat Wrexham in the Conference Premier play-off final to seal promotion to the Football League.

In total, Pidgeley has kept 63 clean-sheets in 213 league appearances, and registered three successive shut-outs in the aforementioned Conference Premier play-offs of 2012/13.
