Vital point for the Stags

Posted onPosted on 7th Mar

Mansfield Town edged a point clearer of the relegation zone thanks to Billy Kee’s 68th minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham.

The Stags had fallen behind to their relegation rivals before substitute Kee earned a deserved point for the visitors, who twice hit the bar in the first half through Junior Brown and Chris Clements.

It was only the second time the Stags had come from behind to earn a point this season and made it seven points from three games this week, a weej hailed as massive by manager Adam Murray.

He said: “We are finally starting to see the fruits of our hard work, though we are still nowhere near where I want to be.

“We hit our goals for February and the players have raised the bar for March which shows their confidence and optimism. Our main aim remains to stay in the League.”

In a topsy-turvy battle to avoid the drop to non-league football, the Stags dropped several places in the table but went eight points clear of the bottom two after Tranmere Rovers’ home defeat to Dagenham.

York and Carlisle also lost, but Cambridge drew and Oxford won.
