Teversal FC to welcome Nottingham Forest U23s

Posted onPosted on 31st Oct

Teversal Football Club will host Nottingham Forest Under-23s in a one-off match as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.

Kick-off will be at 7:45pm on Thursday, 8th November, at the club’s Carnarvon Street ground – which was recently renamed the SR Timber Arena as part of a two-year sponsorship deal with a local timber company.

The first -team, which usually plays in the East Midlands Counties Football League, will line up against a team made up of promising young international footballers from the Championship club, as well as potentially a couple of first team players.

The match is a real coup for Teversal FC, and the club is urging local football fans to come and watch the match and support grassroots football. Entry on the night will be £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, and under-16s go free.

Teversal FC manager Lee Cook is delighted the club has been able to arrange the special fixture and says that his players won’t be fazed when they face such feted opponents.

“The officials at the club have played a masterstroke in arranging a team from Nottingham Forest to come and play us at the SR Timber Arena,” said chairman Peter Cockerill.

“Our team is playing well and won’t be intimidated by the cream of the crop from Forest’s youth system – along with a smattering of first team players who may use the fixture as an opportunity to get back to full fitness.

“We’re looking forward to showing what we can do, and we know that we can match them man for man in terms of commitment and effort – and we’re confident we can give a really good account of ourselves.”

The game has come about as a result of former Teversal FC player turned commercial director Scott Marsh forging strong links with the City Ground club. Scott also played for Nottingham Forest in his younger days.

He said: “Nottingham Forest is a very generous supporter of grassroots football in the region, and we are delighted that, thanks to the strength of the relationship that we have, particularly with Simon Fotheringham and Jordan Smith, the club was amenable to the fixture.

“There is a real buzz of excitement around the club at the prospect of the fixture and it comes at a very fitting time in our history, as we are celebrating 100 years of the club.”

“We’re expecting a large crowd and are delighted that our fantastic sponsors, including VIPs from SR Timber, will join us to cheer the Tevie Boys on against Nottingham Forest.”
