Athletes from Sutton Swimming Club starred at the Nottinghamshire County Swimming Championships.

Held at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre, Nottingham, the second weekend of action saw nine Sutton swimmers claim medals — nine gold, four silver and eight bronze.

Head coach Lee Bunker was impressed and said that, as well as winning medals, Sutton swimmers were well represented in the majority of finals, secured numerous personal best times and new regional qualification times.

Ethan Potter (pictured), competing in the 12 years age group, stole the show by winning all seven events that he entered to add to his haul of medals from the first weekend of the competition.

Ethan is amongst the most talented swimmers in his age group in Great Britain — for example, his winning time in the 400m freestyle of 4.55.98 was the second fastest long-course time recorded by a GB swimmer in his age group in the past year.

His 400m individual medley time, 5.34.45, saw him ranked third in his age group in Great Britain.
Many of Ethan’s other times also put him in the GB top 10.

Another young Sutton swimmer to impress was Thomas Swales, competing in the 10/11yrs age group. He won gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke finals, giving him a clean sweep of golds in the three breaststroke events, with new personal best times.

Thomas also claimed silver medal in the 50m butterfly final.

Sarah Holmes (15) that led the Sutton girls in the medals table. She won silver in the 100m freestyle in 1.01.27, which also meant she took silver in the overall seniors competition in the event.

Sarah added bronze in the 400m freestyle, all welcome additions to her backstroke medals in the first weekend of the championships.

Another Silver medal winner from the Sutton team was Evan Hawley (13) in the 100m breaststroke, missing out on gold by just 0.16 seconds.

Connor Marsh (18) won his first bronze of the championships in the final of the 50m breaststroke, which also saw him secure bronze in the overall seniors.

This was the first time Connor had secured a podium finish in the overall seniors competition of an event at the County Championships.

Thomas Polley (14) won bronze in the 50m butterfly, setting a huge personal best time of 29.48 and also winning bronze in the overall juniors competition.

The other three medal winners from the Sutton squad, who all took bronze medals, were Keira Dobbs (15) in the 50m breaststroke; Harry McKeaney (13) in the 800m freestyle; and Talitha Oud (15) in the 100m butterfly event.
