Stags’ stars surprise young fan

Young Mansfield Town fan Peter Bradley received a massive surprise on Monday night when he opened the door to Stags’ stars Jamie McGuire and Nicky Hunt.

On the day that season ticket sales passed 1,500, the duo made a special visit to the 14-year-old’s house to personally hand-deliver his Season Ticket for the forthcoming campaign, as well as stopping to have a chat with the football-mad youngster.

The visit was arranged as part of the club’s initiative to reach out to supporters and create cherished personal memories, which can be savoured for years to come.

After meeting two of his heroes, Peter said: “I didn’t expect this and I’m grateful for two of the players to come and give me my Season Ticket personally. It’s an experience that I’ll remember.”

Peter’s Dad, David, continued: “I think it’s a really good idea. The youngsters are going to be the lifeblood of the club moving forward, so to get them involved and do anything that keeps them interested, will only be beneficial to the club in the long run.”

Midfielder McGuire, who has featured 62 times since joining the club from Fleetwood Town two years ago, revealed he was more than happy to take part in this unique initiative.

He said: “I think it’s good for the players to interact with the fans because they come and watch us when we’re playing both home and away, so to come to fans’ houses and give them their Season Tickets is a big thing.”

McGuire’s sentiments were echoed by new right-back Nicky Hunt, who added: “It’s obviously great for me and Jamie to come out and do things like this. It shows the fans that we care about them and hopefully we can do a few more.”

Before the season gets under way with a home game against Carlisle United on Saturday, 8th August, members from the Stags’ team will hand-deliver Season Tickets to another supporter, selected at random.
