Stags relegation fears heighten

Posted onPosted on 3rd Apr

A poor first-half performance on Good Friday saw Mansfield Town slip to yet another away defeat, 2-0 at promotion-chasing Southend United.

Two goals in seven minutes from Barry Corr and former Stag Will Atkinson midway through the first period left Town six points clear of the drop zone with six matches remaining.

However, with their terrible away form yielding just four points since the turn of the year and high-flying Shrewsbury the visitors to One Call Stadium on Easter Monday, the Stags’ chances of avoiding a second drop to non-league football hang in the balance.

Vadaine Oliver struck the bar in a better second half, but Mansfield rarely looked likely to get anything at Roots Hall.
