Stags’ keeper mystery

Posted onPosted on 12th Jul

Mansfield Town kicked off their pre-season by naming two of their five summer signings in the squad for the visit of neighbours Notts County.

Striker Alex Fisher and midfielder Fergus Bell were reunited after playing together at Glen Hoddle’s academy in Spain. Birmingham City loan full back Amari’i Bell was also included.

Luke Jones, signed from Stevenage, was not named because of a slight injury and striker Liam Hearn, although now back to fitness, was rested.

Four trialists were named in the squad, which did not feature a named goalkeeper. However, although the club was not naming any of the trialists, one appeared to be Nottingham Forest keeper Dimitar Evtimov.

The Stags are currently without a regular keeper after failing to agree terms with Alan Marriott.

The Stags, who did not officially name a starting XI, named a squad of: Sutton, Riley, Dempster, Tafazolli, Marsden, A. Bell, F. Bell, Murray, Howell, McGuire, Clements, Thomas, Clucas, Palmer, Rhead, Fisher and four trialists.

MANSFIELD TOWN: The starting XI, in a 3-4-1-2 formation, was: Evtimov; Riley, Tafazolli, Dempster; Triallist, Maguire, Murray, A, Bell; Clucas; Rhead, Fisher.
