Mansfield Town’s disappointing League Two campaign ended with yet another defeat, this time 2-1 at Accrington Stanley.
It meant eight defeats in their last nine matches, their lowest ever goals tally for a season – 38 beating the previous low of 41 – and a campaign without winning a penalty.
Teenage defender Corbin Shires made his debut as a late substitute, Vadaine Oliver has a late ‘goal’ ruled out for offside and Jamie McGuire struck a terrific volleyed goal to give the visitors the lead.
But they were the few highlights for Mansfield, who were defeated by two second half goals from Connelly and Gornell, who pounced after the unlucky Martin Riley, playing despite a hamstring injiry, pulled up.
