Mansfield Town commercial manager Paul Nyland will attempt to lose five stone in weight in four months as part of a fundraising effort for Cancer Research UK.
Paul, 45, has begun training with coach Julian Leivers, of Quarry Lane Boxing Club, Mansfield.
Paul said: “I started this challenge at a weight of 22.3 stone and I am aiming to get down to 17 stone within the five month period – a weight I was when I got married 20 years ago.
“I am absolutely determined to do this and have a good coach behind me.
“I want to do this challenge for my own fitness and health and in the process hope to raise as much
money as possible for Cancer Research UK.
“At some point in our lives, we will all know someone who is affected by cancer so I have selected this charity specifically to help contribute in a small way towards the research in trying to bring forward the day when cancer is cured.
“I would also like to say a massive thank you to head coach Jules for the support and training that he will be giving me throughout this challenge.
Julian, head coach at Quarry Lane Boxing Club, said: “Obviously it’s quite overpowering for Paul, walking into a boxing club for the first time as he’s never done anything like this before.
“But he has listened well, picked up the foot-work quickly and is very determined.
“This is more of a lifestyle change for Paul. He’ll be in the gym for three days a week at 7.30am.
“Initially, it’s about getting his base-fitness up.
“As that comes along we’ll be covering more cardiovascular work and building his strength and
conditioning.
“There’ll be lots of stretching, agility, pad and bag work, as well as plyometrics and a lot of core work.”
