Remembering 1966 World Cup win

Mansfield Senior Reds walking football team helped to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of England winning the World Cup in 1966 by finishing third at the Leeds Walking Football Association tournament at the John Charles Centre For Sport, Leeds.

Eighteen teams played in leagues with the top two progressing to the quarter-finals.
Mansfield were runners-up to Derbyshire champions Heanor in their group , including a 4-1 win over Grimsby Mariners, the reigning Peoples Walking Football Champions of England.

Mansfield defeated Leeds Titans Yellows 2-0 in the quarter finals with Nick Jones and Trevor Negus scoring. In the semi-final they lost 6-2 to Leeds Titans Blue, but after a 1-1 draw defeated Heanor 3-2 on penalties in the third/fourth-place play-off with keeper Peter Mitchell the hero.

The Mansfield team, managed by Silvano Taylor, was Peter Mitchell, Mel Pullen, Dave Speller, Nick Jones, Neil Pressley, Trevor Negus, Clyde Derbyshire Steve Haynes and Rick Yates.
