Reach Mansfield 10k route revealed

The route has been announced for the new Reach Mansfield 10k road race on Sunday, 23rd August.

Since the closure of the Mansfield Half Marathon in 2011, the organisers have been working to bring a new running event to the town.

The 10k race aims to regenerate interest in the town centre and promote healthy living and wellbeing. Many of the runners will be sponsored for charity.

Steve Shatwell, finish manager for Reach Mansfield 10k and organiser of the event’s predecessor, devised the route alongside Mansfield Harriers.

“We’re excited about the return of a running event in Mansfield, which will once again create a sense of community for runners,” he said.

“Mansfield town centre is a delight with an eye for architectural detail that rivals the best that Britain offers.

“The route will begin at Titchfield Park, loop through the traffic free streets and have a final sprint into the Market Place.”

Beeston-based agency Perfect Motion, organisers of Cycle Live Nottingham, will deliver the event.

The race route, which consists of two 5k circuits of the town centre, starting at Titchfield Park at 9.30am, has also been chosen as the Notts AAA County Championships race for 2015.

Nik Emmonds, Account Director for Events at Perfect Motion, said: “The Mansfield Half Marathon was a perennial sporting event for 30 years, and was a huge loss when it stopped in 2011. The new Reach Mansfield 10K will be the start of a new era for the town, with a safe and achievable route that can be enjoyed by all who take part.”
