Ollie targets medals

Mansfield Paralympic swimming champion Ollie Hynd MBE has started his journey for Commonwealth and European success.

He is training in London with the other members of Team England at their holding camp, before travelling to Glasgow on 21 July. Ollie will compete in the SM8 200m Individual Medley on Monday 28 July.

He will then join up with fellow Mansfield swimmer Charlotte Henshaw and the GB Para Swimming Team on 2 August to fly to Eindhoven where they will both compete in the IPC European Championships, which are on from 4-10 August.

In Eindhoven he will compete in the S8 100m Backstroke on 4 August, 400m Freestyle on 5 August and the SM8 200m Individual Medley on 6 August.

Before Ollie set off, the Executive Mayor of Mansfield Tony Egginton and Cllr Philip Shields, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at Mansfield District Council, wished Ollie good luck at a training session in the gym at Water Meadows Swimming and Fitness Complex.

The Mayor said: “We are all rooting for Ollie and wish him the best of luck both at the Commonwealth Games and at the European Championships. Hopefully he will bring home more medals to add to his collection.”

Ollie Hynd and Charlotte Henshaw are coached by Mansfield District Council’s Swim Coach and Development Officer, Glenn Smith, who is one of ten coaches appointed to work with Britain’s Paralympic swimmers in the lead up to Rio 2016.
