More silverware for Taylor at Nürburgring

There was another exceptional weekend for Taylors Trucksport Racing at Nürburgring in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, writes Paul Horton.

Driver Mark Taylor brought another trophy home from the ADAC Truck Grand Prix of Germany to add to five trophies from the previous round. He left the circuit third in the Goodyear FIA ETRC Promoters Cup and 11th in the overall Championship.

It was a pinnacle in Taylor’s race career, competing on the world-famous Nürburgring racetrack in front of more than 130,000 spectators.

Finishing the timed practice on the Friday in 10th spot, Taylor went on to excel with his driving ability in Qualifying 1, finishing in P10, making it into Super Pole.

Race one saw Taylor on row 5 and make a good start. He was straight into P9, then P8. but 0n lap 5 Taylor locked up a front left brake taking him into the gravel, rejoining in P13. Lap 8 saw him in 12th remaining there to take the flag.

Waved yellow flags saw the first lap start as rain fell for race 2 on the Saturday. By lap 5 Taylor was P11. A spin on standing water took him back into P14. Three laps later Taylor returned to P13. A beached truck caused a red flag and the race declared completed, the team settling for P13 but more points in the Promoters Cup.

Qualifying 2 saw Taylor straight into P8 and made the 10-minute Super Pole session that followed. Taylor maintained his position, finishing in 10th spot.

Race Three saw Taylor on row 5 of the grid placed to get a good start.

Taylor’s pace was phenomenal. By lap 3 he was 9th. Lap 7 saw him crowded on the final corner, reminiscent to Slovakia-Ring, by Rodrigues so down into 10th spot, losing out again.

Taylor battled only to settle with a 10th place, but a well-earned 3rd place podium in the Promoters Cup.

However, a steward’s enquiry into the Rodrigues incident saw Taylor upgraded to a well-deserved 2nd in the Promoters Cup and 9th overall.

In Sunday’s final race, Taylor lined up 9th on grid. Pressure in the first lap pushed him to P11, by lap 3 he was P10. Taylor persevered and by lap 6 was P9. Pipped at the post by Rodrigues, he took 4th in the Promotors Cup P9 overall.

Taylor said:  “The weekend was fantastic. The team worked tirelessly all weekend to keep me on track to gain more points in the Championship.

“We leave Nürburgring third in the Promoters Cup and another trophy for the cabinet from Race 3. We are thrilled.”

The team are 3rd in the Goodyear FIA ETRC Promoter’s Cup with 137 points and 11th in the Driver’s Championship. They are 5th in the ETRC Teams Championship.  They return to action at Autodrom Most, Czech Republic on 26th and 27th August after the summer break.

The team will return to racing in the UK, 12th and 13th August at the popular Convoy in The Park at local circuit, Donington Park contesting the International Truck Prix.
