Mansfield Town 2-3 Exeter City

Angry Mansfield manager Adam Murray blasted his players after poor defending gifted Exter a comeback win to leave the Stags just one point clear of the relegation places.

The Stags had six efforts cleared off the line and also hit the bar, but always looked vulnerable at the back as they chased a first home win since November – Murray’s first match in charge.

They trailed 1-0 at half-time to a near post header, but then turned it around when Billy Kee – one of six home debutants – headed in a corner and set up Vadaine Oliver for a second.

But poor defending at a corner presented play-off chasing City with an equaliser and a Martin Riley error late on led to as match-winning penalty.

Murray said: “That was rubbish. We scored two goals at home but defended like an under-16 team. For some reason we find it hard to defend set pieces.

“I am fed up with people walking into the dressing room saying sorry. Sorry will get you relegated.

“The bottom line is, we are in a relegation battle.

“It has been a common theme over the season – we don’t know how to win.

“We got ourselves back in the game then made absolutely horrendous decisions. You can’t allow for that. If people can’t do their jobs then they had better get a warm coat.”
