Mansfield Cricket Club, which was hit by arsonists who destroyed its pavilion and equipment, has been given a double boost.

The club set up a GoFundMe page after the Boxing Day blaze and vandalism on Rosemary Street.

Communal areas, changing rooms, senior and junior equipment, and kit were wrecked.

But that appeal raised more than £2,700 and now Mansfield Rotary and The Armchair Club have each donated £500 to the club to help with its plans for the new season.

The Armchair Club, a group of businesspeople who raise funds to help local sportsmen and women, as well as clubs and organisations, also presented  Jake Hyett with its donation at a Question Of Sport quiz evening at Mansfield Town FC. Geoff Waller, a trustee of the Armchair Club Sporting Foundation Trust, is pictured above handing over the cheque.

Jake said: “It was bitterly disappointing to have a community sports club attacked in such a way. However, we are a club that aims to bring people of all ages and all backgrounds together and we will not be beaten by mindless violence.”

Mansfield District Council, which owns the pavilion, also lost a large quantity of resources it uses to deliver its nutrition sessions at school holiday clubs. The pavilion was also used to prepare and cook food for the sessions.

At the Question Of Sport evening Hopkins Solicitors won the QoS trophy, beating Collins Casuals into second place to deprive them of a hat-trick of QoS wins.
