Health scheme accolade at National Fitness Awards

Posted onPosted on 5th Dec

A project to help people be in the best possible shape to cope with major surgery, recover from operations and injuries, and improve their fitness has won a national award.

Mansfield District Leisure Trust’s (MDLT) Healthy Life scheme claimed the Best Rehabilitation Facility of the Year accolade at the National Fitness Awards, at the Athena, Leicester.

Andrew Smith, contract manager for MDLT, said: “This win tops off a great year for us in Mansfield. In June, our Oak Tree Leisure Centre picked up, for the second year in succession, the ukactive award for Best Club/Centre (Midlands); Water Meadows is the reigning UK Pool and Spa Leisure Water Leisure Venue of the Year; and now we have this award that celebrates work done all round the region by our teams.

“The Healthy Life scheme is a vital element of what we do as a leisure trust. It helps local people, who might not have ventured into a fitness facility before, by tailoring fitness programmes to suit the individual and doing so in a welcoming, friendly atmosphere.

“Since 2016, Healthy Life has helped over 550 people lead healthier lives.”

Jayne Cox, leisure manager at Mansfield District Council, added: “Congratulations to the trust and all the team involved in providing the Healthy Life scheme. It is fantastic that Mansfield residents have the opportunity to benefit from this award-winning support.

“It is testament to the dedication of the trust’s team and the participants themselves that so many people have become fitter and healthier as a result.”

Along with managing agent Serco Leisure, MDLT operates four centres across the region on behalf of the district council — Oak Tree Leisure Centre, River Maun Recreation Centre, Water Meadows Fitness and Swimming Complex, and the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre.
