Friends launch Strongman competition

Posted onPosted on 27th Sep

A contest to find the strongest men and women in the Mansfield area has been launched.

The men behind the competition are gym owner Carl Bramley, of CB Fitness and Sports Massage Therapy, — based at Mansfield Rugby Club — and Strongman enthusiast Rob Beaumont.

The Strongman event, called Mansfield’s Strongest, will be at The Coopers, Mansfield Woodhouse, on Saturday, 8th June, next year.

Facebook page Mansfield News reports that Carl is relatively new to Strongman, having previously competed in numerous deadlift competitions.

He is now changing his focus to compete in the multi-event discipline.

Rob has been training in Strongman for four years and this year started competing after picking up an injury in 2022.

The pair have struck up a friendship through their mutual love of moving heavy things, which led them to plan to run their own competition in Mansfield Woodhouse.

Mansfield’s Strongest will showcase athletes from Carl’s own gym and further afield.

It is planned to have four categories of athlete with up to 40 competing on the day, including in a ladies open class, and men’s classes from beginners to open.

Rob said: “The plan is to make this a great competition that pushes athletes to hit new levels, while providing a great spectacle for supporters and spectators alike.”

During the day spectators will be treated to many Strongman disciplines, which been seen on the World’s Strongest Man TV show — overhead log press for repetitions, farmers handle walk, deadlifts for repetitions, carry medley, and the mighty Atlas stones, which are the traditional finale event.

Organisers added: “A champion for each category will be crowned at the end of five gruelling events.

“Hopefully this will become an annual event.”
