Five podium places for Mansfield Triathlon Club

Posted onPosted on 24th Apr

Mansfield Triathlon Club members took five podium places in local early-season-openers, sending strong teams to the Chesterfield Go Tri Aquathlon and the Clumber Duathlon.

At the Chesterfield Go Tri Aquathlon Evie Clifton took first place in the 10 to 14-year-old category, completing the 100m swim and 1,000m run in 6 min 44 sec. Teammate Isla Worthington grabbed second place in 7 min 21 sec with Ruby-Grace Gregory coming home in 8min 3 sec.

In an exciting finish to the 8 to 9-year old race (50m swim and 500m run) Marni Worthington came second, just 5 hundredth of a second behind the winner in 8 mins 10 sec. In the adult race (300m swim and 3,000m run) Lewis Turner finished in 17 min and 37 sec in a sign of things to come.

At the Clumber Duathlon, selected as a qualification race for GB Age Group Duathlon team for the ITU 2023 World and European Duathlon Championships, the club faced a high-quality field seeking GB qualification. Undaunted by the quality on show and the exceptionally windy conditions, Lewis Turner took third place in age group in the sprint race (5km run, 20km bike, 2.5km run) in 1 hr 5 min and 32 sec. In the same event, Deb Kerry finished in 1 hr 26 min and 32 sec for an event personal best, whilst Stephen Fowkes took 1 hr 30 min and 6 sec to complete the distance.

Mansfield Triathlon Club, a double accredited club mark organisation, and one of the highest accredited clubs in the country, welcomes new junior and adult members. More details are available at www.mansfieldtri.com or via the club’s Facebook page.
