Farnsfield off to a flyer

Posted onPosted on 14th May

Despite April showers at the start of the season, Farnsfield Cricket Club’s open-age teams fulfilled their first fixtures of the season.

The 1st XI got off to a flying start, winning all four of their opening matches to top the Bassetlaw League Championship League.

They are also through to the third round of the national Village Cup, beating Cuckney 2nds in a competitive second round match.

Michael Archer, Farnsfield 1sts’ overseas player, has made a promising start, having already taken 12 wickets and scoring just under 100 hundred runs by early May to be the league’s leading wicket taker.

The club thanked Darren Dennis at AND Motor Care, Bilsthorpe, for loaning Michael a car during his stay.

Farnsfield women’s and girls are looking ahead to the annual softball festival on Sunday, 23rd June, which gives women and girls the chance to participate in the sport. For further details see the club’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

The Junior section has started their training on Friday evenings with more than 100 boys and girls attending. On Friday, 21st June the youngsters will be taking part in a Sunset Cricket evening.

At the end of May the club hosted a scorers’ workshop, organised and run by Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. The club is always looking to encourage new scorers and would support them with appropriate training.

At 9pm on Thursday, 6th June, the Farnsfield branch of the Royal British Legion, in conjunction with the cricket club, will be lighting a beacon at the Station Lane ground to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The bar will be open and the public is welcome to attend.

The club welcomes new members, particularly volunteers. Anyone interested can email [email protected] or follow the club on Facebook or Instagram or go a match at Station Lane, Farnsfield.
