Evan on the ball for a Stags surprise

Posted onPosted on 29th Jan

Meden School student Evan Lord was independently nominated by two of his teachers for a Teachers UK competition to win a day behind the scenes at Mansfield Town Football Club.

Kim Hickinbotham, associate school leader and head of Year 9, said: “In addition to my nomination, Evan’s PE teacher nominated him too. Neither of us knew the other was putting Evan’s name forward.

“However, our nominations reflected the same traits in Evan that make him such a model student — like his excellent attitude to learning and that he always goes above and beyond what is asked of him.

“As a school we do a lot of work on attitude to learning and how students approach their lessons, and Evan is exemplary in everything he does.”

She said the competition, run by Teachers UK with Mansfield Town Football In The Community, had the perfect prize for Evan, a Stags fan.

Kim added: “Evan works hard and has high aspirations for himself. He is also a major Mansfield Town fan.

“He is a great footballer and goalkeeper himself and has loved previous visits to the Stags ground.

“We thought this competition, should he win, would be the perfect way to reward him.”

Evan said his nomination was a surprise.

“I suppose it means I am doing something right at school,” he added. “I am surprised though because there are a lot of students who they could have chosen apart from me.”

Gary Shaw, community manager of Mansfield Town Football In The Community, attended the school with Louise Hamby, branch manager at Teachers UK — an education recruitment specialist based at Mansfield’s I-Centre — to deliver the prize.

She said: “Congratulations are in order for Evan who will receive a behind the scenes experience at the club on a match day.

“We hope Evan will get a lot out of the day he spends with us. He will have the chance to meet the players and receive signed memorabilia.

“As Evan is already a keen player, we hope he will also be able to take advantage of his access to any football expertise on offer on match day.”
