Cricket club launches fundraising appeal

Posted onPosted on 7th Jul

Farnsfield Cricket Club is appealing for people to back an appeal to raise money to preserve its future during the coronavirus pandemic.

With the suspension of local cricket and uncertainty of the sport’s immediate future because of Covid-19 restrictions, the club said it needed vital funds to ensure its financial security.

Cricket has been played in Farnsfield since 1817 and occupied the ground at Station Lane since 1862. During this time Farnsfield Cricket Club has embedded itself and become a thriving part of the local community.

The club said: “Having launched the careers of some homegrown talent, including Paul Franks (Nottinghamshire CCC and England), Brett Hutton (Nottinghamshire CCC, Northamptonshire CCC) and Sam Wood (Nottinghamshire CCC and England Under-19’s) it’s imperative we play our part and continue to offer cricket to future generations in the interest of sustaining the sport in our village and for others to have the chance to follow in their footsteps.

“Planned (for 2020), as usual, was a full programme of junior softball, junior hardball and senior cricket, alongside the numerous fundraising and social events that also take place throughout the year to support the success of the club.

“Improvements to the ground and its facilities is an endless list which includes, this year, replacing worn out equipment, investing in new netting areas, improving our second ground at Edingley, the home ground for the third team and older junior teams.

“We aim to also raise funds and invest in developing changing room facilities for our ever increasing numbers of female cricketers. Both clubhouses require continual maintenance to ensure they meet the standards of H&SE and ECB regulations.

“Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic is having a devastating effect on the club’s ability to raise funds in the way it is accustomed.

“Any donation that you can make will be gratefully received and will help secure the future of Farnsfield Cricket Club.”
