Countdown to Notts playing at Welbeck

Notts Outlaws Captain Steven Mullaney is determined for his side continue their 100 per cent winning record in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Welbeck when they host Northamptonshire Steelbacks there on Sunday 20 May.

In three previous completed matches at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, the Green and Golds have beaten Warwickshire in 2015, Derbyshire in 2016 and Leicestershire last year.

Mullaney, who played in all three encounters, making 50 from 44 balls against the Foxes last summer, said: “We have a great record at Welbeck which we pride ourselves on – and we want to keep it going.

“We want to stay unbeaten on a ground we enjoy playing at, and if we play well against Northants, we believe we can do it.

“As much as we love playing at Trent Bridge it’s also great to play at different grounds and take matches to another part of the county.

“People can sit right next to the field, so it feels intimate and brings with it a really good atmosphere.

“We normally get a decent crowd in and hopefully we can get another win for those who come along.”

After missing last year’s game because he was on England duty, Jake Ball is set to return to play at his former club, fitness permitting.

Mullaney is eager to see what the Mansfield-born seamer, who has enjoyed an excellent start to the Specsavers County Championship season, can do on his old stomping ground.

He said: “Jake is obviously a favourite at Welbeck and they are rightfully proud of what he has achieved over the last few years.

“I remember him bowling quickly and well against Warwickshire here in 2015 (taking 2-47), even though it was Dan Christian who ended up getting five wickets.

“Having missed last year, he will want to show what he can do this year.”
