At the final day of individual competition at the 2020 Nottinghamshire County Championships at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre, Nottingham, Sutton Swimming Club again came away with medals galore.

In the 1,500m freestyle all six Sutton swimmers won medals — led by the remarkable Ethan Potter.

The 12-year-old continued his run of success at the championships by winning gold in a new personal best of 19.47.66 — beating his nearest rival in his age group by nearly three minutes.

Other Sutton swimmers in the 1,500m freestyle were: Silver – Harry McKeaney (13), Amelia Roberts (12) and Libby Dove (15); Bronze – Molly Etherington (14) and Ellie Read (18).

In the boys’ 12yrs final, Ethan Potter bounced back from a slightly disappointing swim in the earlier medley event, where for once he missed out on a medal by finishing fourth, to again win gold in a new personal best time of 30.00.

His teammate, Harrison Clarke, claimed silver in 30.99 and Jack Patterson was eighth.

In the boys’ 10/11yrs final Thomas Swales (11) won silver medal, just 0.09 off the top spot, and Ellis Senior was seventh.

In the boys’ 16yrs and over final one of the youngest in the finals, Sutton’s Tom Trueman (16) produced a personal best 24.96 to claim bronze medal in that event and an overall event senior championships bronze.

In the boys’ 15yrs final Francis Dermody was fifth. In the boys’ 13yrs final Liam Hill finished eighth.

In the girls’ 15yrs final Sarah Holmes swam a personal best 27.84 to win silver. The time was so fast that no swimmers in the 16yrs and over final that followed was quicker, meaning that Sarah also won silver in the overall event senior championships.

Sutton’s other swimmers in the 15yrs final were fourth-placed Talitha Oud and Libby Dove, who was eighth.
In the overall championship, Ethan Potter won the boys 12yrs section, Thomas Swales took silver in the 10/11yrs group and Tom Trueman bronze in the 16yrs group. championship.
