Severn Trent’s Education Team offer seasonal show to schools

Posted onPosted on 14th Dec

Severn Trent’s education elves will be hitting the road in the run up to the Christmas holidays to deliver a festive learning event in schools.

Singing, interactive games, a naughty and nice list with a twist, and more is promised.

The tour is a chance to spread Severn Trent’s messages, including what’s on the naughty and nice list for this year. The naughty list includes pouring fats, oils and greases down the sink, leaving the tap running while washing your hands, and putting wet wipes in the toilet.

The nice list includes having a shower for four minutes, only putting the three Ps – pee, poo and paper – down the toilet and turning the tap off when brushing your teeth.

Maxine Smith, senior education officer at Severn Trent, said: “The Education Team’s Christmas Tour is a way of bringing even more fun to our sessions, making sure that children remember the messages we teach and help to get everyone excited for the holidays.

“The sessions really help youngsters to think about the work that Severn Trent does, where their water comes from and how their actions can go a long way in impacting the environment.

“We would urge interested schools or parents who would like to get a school involved to get in touch to find out more about the free sessions.”

This winter, Severn Trent is providing top tips and advice to get homes ready and keep them protected throughout the winter:

 Around the home:

  • Insulate your pipes in unheated areas of your homes (such as lofts, roofs, outbuildings and garages) to keep them protected from bursts or leaks this winter
  • Cover your outdoor tap to prevent it from freezing
  • Make sure you know where to find your stop tap and check that it works

In the bathroom:

  • Check for and fix leaky loos, taps and showers – customers can let us know about any issues by sending a video using the Vyn platform here
  • Only flush the 3Ps – pee, poo and toilet paper and keep a bin in your bathroom for all unflushable items such as, sanitary towels, tampons, nappies and wipes

In the kitchen:

  • Use kitchen roll to soak up grease from plates and pans before washing up
  • Collect used cooking oil, fat and grease into a container, jar or tin and put it in the bin once cool

Further information on how to prepare your home for winter can be found here.  Anyone who has a problem, either with slow drains or a blocked sewer it can be reported here or by calling 0800 783 4444.
