Schools work together on park improvements

Pupils from Berry Hill and St Peter’s primary schools continued their work with Mansfield District Council on King George V Park by taking part in a tree planting and litter pick event.

More than 100 children worked in small teams at the park to plant silver birch trees.

Funding for the trees was secured from the Greenwood Partnership. The schools thanked Nic Wort from Nottinghamshire County Council for his support.

Officers from Mansfield District Council gave advice and support about planting trees. The children also worked with Jess Gibbs, district council neighbourhood warden, picking up litter.

This was the third time the schools had worked in partnership with the district council on the park’s improvements. They have sowed a wildflower meadow and planted crocus bulbs.

Andy Chambers, parks development officer, said: “We are so pleased the Greenwood Partnership supported the schools with the funding for the silver birch trees.

“It is important to encourage children to get involved in their local parks and we hope this support will continue.”
