Rotary club bestows top honour

Kirkby Rotary Club has bestowed a major honour on Kirkby resident Mrs Jean Moulson, witnessed by two of Rotary’s leading national figures.

At the club’s 68th charter anniversary, she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship. Named after the founder of Rotary International, it is the highest honour that can be given by a Rotary club.

The fellowship regalia was presented by Rotarian Steve Lawes, governor of Rotary District 1220, watched by present and future national Rotary presidents.

Jean Moulson was president of Kirkby’s Inner Wheel Club, the parallel all-female organisation to Rotary, then chairman of District 22 and president of the national association.

Roger Pursey, president of Kirkby Rotary Club, reading the citation, said: “Jean has been a keen and active supporter of this club over several decades and is a very fitting recipient of this award.”

She was recently made an honorary member of Kirkby Rotary Club, along with her husband, Jim, a former president of Rotary in Britain & Ireland (RIBI).

Among the guests at the charter celebration were Rotarians Peter Davey, president-elect of RIBI, the main speaker, and Peter King, current president of RIBI. Also at the top table was Coun Elizabeth Mays, chairman of Ashfield District Council.
