‘Sign up for garden waste scheme’

Mansfield District Council is urging residents to sign up for its garden waste scheme.

Thousands of residents have already joined the scheme, which costs £25 for the year round service.

Brown bins are emptied fortnightly from March to November and monthly from December to February.

The bins can be used to recycle grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, leaves, small branches, twigs, planta, weeds and cut flowers.

Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “This is a great scheme, which enables people to have their garden waste removed from their doorstep without the fuss and mess of going to the tip.

“It’s an all year round service, which helps to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and reduces the amount of greenhouse gases produced.”
