Reduced parking at Sherwood Forest Country Park

Posted onPosted on 28th May

Sherwood Forest Country Park car park has reopened with limited parking capacity.

Car parks on-site were closed in March in line with the Government’s coronavirus guidelines. All other facilities, including the visitor centre, shop, café, toilets and play area will remain closed until further notice.

Reduced parking is just one of the procedures in place at Sherwood Forest to help staff and visitor safety, with others including an on-site one-way system and encouragement of social distancing measures.

Coun John Cottee, chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Communities and Place Committee, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their patience since we were asked to close the car parks under the Government’s Coronavirus guidelines. Sherwood Forest has remained open but has only been able to be used by people locally.

“With people now able to travel to get out and about or for exercise we have worked with the RSPB who manage Sherwood Forest to re-open car parks. I would like to remind people that strict social distancing guidelines remain, and we will monitor usage so we can ensure everybody’s safety.

“Shops, cafes, visitor centres along with play areas will remain closed.”

The senior site manager of the RSPB, which manage the site and the county council, Gemma Howarth, said: “We know people are really keen to start to visit the forest again, but we want to ensure this is done in a safe way and would urge people not to travel great distances to visit as the car park will be closed once it is full.

“There is very limited parking elsewhere once this happens. We want to help people enjoy this wonderful forest but our priority as ever is the safety of everyone.”
