Poppy appeal launched

The Deputy Mayor joined veterans to launch the annual Poppy Appeal in Mansfield.

The chairman of Mansfield branch of the Royal British Legion, Mick Moor, presented the first poppy to Deputy Mayor Cllr Roger Sutcliffe at Mansfield Civic Centre.

Cllr Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, joined the Poppy Appeal Organiser Joe Martin and members of the Mansfield branch of the Royal British Legion for the launch.

The Poppy Appeal was launched nationally on 23 October and aims to raise £40m to enable the Royal British Legion to continue to fund their welfare work.

This year, the Royal British Legion is encouraging everyone to support the Poppy Appeal for the memory of the fallen and the future of the living.

Every poppy helps the Royal British Legion to support bereaved families, wounded Service men and women, younger veterans seeking employment and housing and older veterans needing age-related care.

Deputy Mayor Roger Sutcliffe said: “The Poppy Appeal is a very worthwhile cause, which helps current and former members of the Armed Forces and their families. Poppies are available for a donation in the Civic Centre and at venues throughout the District.”
