Oscars handed out at college

Vision West Nottinghamshire College’s Students’ Union staged its Staff Oscars when more than 260 staff were nominated by students and awarded certificates, with the highest nominations received a golden Oscar-style trophy.

Both teaching staff and support staff took to the stage, cheered on by students at the college’s Derby Road campus. Certificated and awards were presented by college principal and chief executive Dame Asha Khemka OBE, DBE.

The five members of staff with the highest number of nominations to receive an Oscar were:

Katherine Mumby, programme area leader in health and social care. Katherine received 37 votes for being “a supportive teacher who makes lessons fun and interesting.”

Denise Formon, cleaner at the college. Denise received 32 votes for being a “friendly person who makes students laugh.”

Russell Peatman, motor vehicle technician. Russell received 26 votes for “always being there when students need him and knowing how to motivate people.”

Kerianne Myroft, catering assistant. Kerianne received 22 votes for “being helpful and making students smile.”

Sue Swinscoe, early years tutor. Sue received 21 votes being “cheerful and always coaching students to do the best they can do.”

President of the Students’ Union Marie Oakton said: “This has been the best staff Oscars ceremony to date with more students voting for their favourite members of staff.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to get together with staff to give a warm-hearted and well-deserved thank you for their commitment and dedication.”
