New community room and gym at Oak Tree Leisure Centre

Posted onPosted on 1st Jul

Oak Tree Leisure Centre, Mansfield, is to launch its new power-assisted equipment gym The Health Studio and Community Room on 11th July – but customers eager to see these new additions to the facility can try The Health Studio for free and view the Community Room in the week beginning 4th July.

The Health Studio is a new kind of fitness space. The power-assisted kit from the Innerva range means people who don’t feel ready for a standard gym now have a fitness facility they can call their own. Each bit of kit has a varied range of assist-settings, allowing people to exercise at their own pace. As they get stronger, they can up the intensity, or just stay at the level they feel comfortable at – it’s up to them.

The new Community Room is being added to the centre as currently there are very few if any spaces for local groups to meet. The room will be the ideal location for things like community meetings, training sessions and social group get togethers. The Oak Tree team will also be utilising the room to run a variety of different health, social and activity sessions.

Brian Taylor, chair of More Community Leisure Trust, which operates Oak Tree, said: “These are very welcome additions to the multiple award-winning Oak Tree Leisure Centre. The Community Room will be a much-needed hub for various local groups, who previously will have struggled to find suitable spaces for their meetings and other sessions. I expect it very quickly to become an indispensable part of local life.

“The Health Studio will be a game-changer for many in this area. It’s a gym for those who don’t feel ready for the gym, a space to get active but in a relaxed, friendly setting. In the studio, there’ll be 10 machines for people to use, each focusing on a different exercise. They’re all easy to use, but our instructors will provide a full induction for all customers who sign up for a Health Studio membership.

“So, if you’re currently inactive and want to make a positive, healthy change in your life, the Health Studio is what you’ve been waiting for. The equipment works for you, so you can ease into activity. As you get stronger and more confident, you’ll take on more of the load. Why not come on down during the week beginning July 4th and try this amazing Innerva equipment – sessions will be free all week.”

Coun Andy Burgin, porfolio holder for Leisure and Environment, said: “The new power-assisted gym and community hub space bring two very much needed additions to the Oak Tree Leisure Centre and the wider community. Having a centre that is inclusive and relevant is vital to improving health and provides a safe space where people can develop their physical and mental wellbeing.

“The power-assisted gym breaks down the barriers to accessibility and the community hub will bring the opportunity for groups to gather, celebrate and enjoy their neighbourhood. It’s a fantastic development from Serco Leisure as part of their revised leisure contract with Mansfield District Council – we look forward to seeing the full project plan come to fruition so that people in Mansfield can lead happier, healthier lives.”

Opening times of the Health Studio during the free taster week:

• Monday 4th – 2pm – 4pm
• Tuesday 5th/Wed 6th/Thu 7th/Fri 8th – 9am – 4pm
• Saturday 9th/Sunday 10th – 8am – 3pm
