Work is due to start on the building of 17 high quality new bungalows on Flint Avenue in Forest Town.
Contractors Wates Living Space will commence work on the £3m development on 8 December 2014, when the whole of Flint Avenue, including the Community Centre, will be fenced off. Local residents are asked to take note that they will have not have access from their rear gardens onto the open space while the development takes place. The development is expected to be completed in November 2015.
The scheme includes a one-bed and sixteen two-bed properties, four of which will be wheelchair accessible. The community centre will also be refurbished as part of the contract and the open space will be enhanced with new planting and outdoor fitness stations.
Wates Living Space will be working with the Council to ensure that there are apprenticeships available for local people and sub-contracting work available for local firms.
Deputy Mayor of Mansfield District Council, Cllr Roger Sutcliffe said: “We are delighted that work is due to start on this high quality scheme. All the properties will be rented out by the Council to people aged 60 plus and in the first instance will be offered to residents currently living in Council accommodation, who wish to downsize and free up family housing. We are very proud to be leading the way in providing new-build, local authority owned, affordable housing.”
Joanne Jamieson, Regional Managing Director for Wates Living Space said: “We are pleased to be developing our relationship with Mansfield District Council by commencing work on this important project for the Forest Town area. We always seek to leave a legacy beyond building in the communities in which we work and are looking forward to engaging with local residents and businesses in due course.”
