How failure was turned into success

Barnsley College Foundation Learning students studying at the Mansfield Education Hub created educational products about the importance of failure and put them on display at Mansfield Museum.

The students have been exploring important lessons they can learn from failure in their project-based learning. They were tasked with creating an educational tool that can promote failure, build emotional resilience and raise the self-esteem of schoolchildren who will use it.

Their products were displayed at the museum for visiting schools to view and learn more about the importance of failure.

The products were then critiqued by the education officer at the museum, Chris Neil, who said: “I would buy something like this for my classroom. They are engaging for young people and really reinforce positivity. A lot of hard work has gone into these products, well done!”

Access to Learning teacher at the hub, Sarah Adair, added: “Within our project-based learning this term we have worked as a group to learn more about failure and the impact this has on us.

“We explored how failure can make us feel, the emotions it raises and looked at ways we overcome this.

“We also explored famous failures and spoke with local people who have fallen short in life to find out more about overcoming failure and how it can be beneficial to sometimes be unsuccessful at things.”
