Hospital opens for men ‘in their darkest hours’

Posted onPosted on 4th Feb

A new state-of-the-art hospital that will support men struggling with their mental health has opened in Mansfield.

Cygnet Hospital Sherwood, a new purpose-built 44-bed facility, is an extension to the existing Cygnet Health Care site on Rufford Colliery Lane that includes Cygnet Sherwood House and Cygnet Sherwood Lodge.

It was officially opened by Coun Ben Bradley MP, alongside hospital manager Claire Griffiths and Cygnet chief executive Dr Tony Romero.

Ben said: “I know it will make a huge difference to people, supporting local men through their darkest hours and back to good health.”

The service features three wards — a 12-bed specialist psychiatric intensive care unit called Fern Ward and two 16-bed emergency acute services known as Bramble Ward and Treetops Ward.

The hospital has brought more than 100 new jobs and local resources were used during the construction phase and will be for day-to-day supplies to run the service.
