First Prime Minister visit to Mansfield Woodhouse

Posted onPosted on 5th Jan

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited Mansfield Woodhouse on Thursday – believed to be the first PM to ever go to the town.

After holding a Q&A at the MyPlace Youth Centre, Mansfield – when a new youth and community centre for the Bellamy Estate in Mansfield was announced – Rishi and Mansfield MP Ben Bradley headed to Mansfield Woodhouse Library to meet local community groups and charities.

The groups included Mansfield CVS, Unanima Theatre and Hetty’s, as well as Mansfield Woodhouse Community Development Group and Mansfield Woodhouse Heritage Link (below).

They spoke with the PM about a range of issues, from the unique services they deliver for people across Mansfield, to volunteering in communities across the town, and supporting those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Rishi was also able to look at the work done by the Heritage Link to preserve and protect the history of Mansfield Woodhouse and help the local community learn more about where they live.

The Prime Minister was keen to point out Mansfield Woodhouse Library as a fantastic hub for the community, and thanked everyone for coming to speak with him and for the amazing work they do.

Ben said: “It was fantastic to welcome the PM to Mansfield this week, particularly to meet local community groups in Woodhouse. We don’t think any Prime Minister has ever visited Woodhouse before, so there’s a moment for the Heritage group to record in the history books!

“We spoke about community services, supporting charities and groups that deliver so much in our area, and also about disability. The PM then had a look at some of the Heritage Link projects they’ve been working on.

“It’s brilliant to be able to bring the PM out in to our community, to meet and thank people who do so much, and to hear from them about their priorities. Woodhouse Library too is a fantastic hub for the community, and the PM commented on what a great facility it is!”
