Farnsfield Scout off to World Jamboree

Posted onPosted on 3rd May

A Scout from Farnsfield has been selected to take part in the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea next summer.

Grace Fieldwick (12) along with 40,000 Scouts from nearly 200 nations, will participate in an array of exciting, adventurous activities over two weeks, with themes of cultural understanding, teamwork and friendship.

Grace was one of 36 young people to win through to represent Nottinghamshire after a tough selection day that featured 200 other Scouts from all over the county.

They participated in activities, ranging from piecing together a Lego set without seeing the instructions, to assembling structures out of wooden poles.

Grace said: “It is a real honour to have been chosen to take part in such a life-changing event, and I’m unimaginably grateful to the Scouts for this opportunity.”

Now Grace needs to raise more than £3,600. Not only does this money contribute to her going to South Korea, it also goes towards helping young people from less developed countries to attend.

Among her fundraising events is running a tuck shop with her sister, Hannah Fieldwick. They have already raised more than £150 so far from the tuck shop, which is next to St Michael’s Primary School, Farnsfield.

Grace has also been supported by Southwell Rotary with a cheque for £500.

Audley Ackermann, the president of Southwell Rotary (pictured top), presented the cheque at a recent club meeting at Southwell Golf Course.

“Rotary is 1.2 million people who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities, and around the world,” he said.

“Grace’s trip of a lifetime will certainly make a lasting change in the world as well as inspire local young people in the community.”

Grace thanked Southwell Rotary for their kind donation towards her jamboree trip.

The World Scout Jamboree takes place every four years and in 2019 was in West Virginia, USA.
