Education hub students sell products at festive market

Posted onPosted on 7th Dec

Barnsley College students, studying at the Mansfield Education Hub, tackled a range of varied activities during the autumn term.

The Foundation Learning study programme curriculum has moved to project-based learning, which feeds into their qualification.

The projects are based upon a different theme each term, the first of which was positive thinking and learning from setbacks.

Students developed a range of products aimed at promoting resilience, confidence and raising aspirations, including jars of positive comments, gratification stickers, and books with inspirational quotes.

Members of the public spoke to learners about the products, and the project as a whole, at a showcase event at Mansfield Museum.

Students also learned about equality and diversity, tasting savoury and sweet dishes from across Asia and Europe prepared by staff, and developing equality and diversity-related products.

The products are on sale at Mansfield Christmas Market until Wednesday, 22nd December.

Students discovered how Movember raises awareness of men’s mental and physical health problems, debating relevant topics and having fun trying on moustaches.

Karen McCartney, Foundation Learning teacher at Mansfield Education Hub, said: “We are very proud of our students’ achievements.

“They have participated in a range of lessons and learning activities to help them progress in their subject areas as well as developing their knowledge, skills, and confidence.

“It was fantastic to see them working as part of a team to plan and design their products.”
