Discovering the best of Ashfield at annual awards

Posted onPosted on 30th Mar

The winners of the 2021 Discover Ashfield Awards, which celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in the community, have been revealed.

Discover Ashfield celebrates all that is best about living, visiting, working and doing business in the district.

Pete Edwards, Discover Ashfield Theme Lead for Be Happy, Be Healthy, said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to put in a nomination for this year’s Discover Ashfield Awards.

“We had some fantastic entries and there were many worthy winners.”

A variety of awards were up for grabs, including in three new sections that recognised the work and support that has been offered during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ashfield District Council, which is part of Discover Ashfield, said the judging panel, which included Discover Ashfield chair Martin Rigley, were faced with some tough decisions.

A spokesman added: “There were so many inspiring nominations, all of which have achieved so much in many different ways.”

Pete (pictured above with Caleb Wheatley, Covid-19 Young Hero Award winner) added: “It was an honour and a pleasure to be able to present some of the Covid-19 Young Hero winners with their awards. Health and wellbeing is so important and it’s amazing to see young people in Ashfield championing this subject and helping to make a difference.

“There is some amazing community work taking place in Ashfield and they should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
