West Nottinghamshire College’s Level 2 Make-Up Artistry students have been producing some vivid and eye-catching designs in recent weeks, impressing tutors with their breadth of creativity and skills.

A work placement project with Sutton-based Shooting Star Body Art saw the group challenged to create looks based on the seasons of the year.

Company owner Suzanne Jacques was impressed with the designs and visited them during their tutorial session at the college then visited the students in their tutorial session at college and selected a winner for each season.

Winners were Jas Young with her spring-themed look (above), Megan Newbold with the summer theme (below right), Cody Berrington depicted autumn (below centre), while Abbie-Leigh Statham wowed with the winter colours.

Suzanne presented winners with a £10 Amazon voucher as well as offering suggestions for their progress in the industry and spoke about her own creative business.

Suzanne said: “I was amazed by some of their work, creativity and their inspiration for their looks. I was also asked if I would pick the winners for each season which was hard as all had done such an amazing job but there was a few who really caught my eye.

“I had a chat with the students also which was amazing, answered a few questions they had, and I advised them on some certain things to do regarding finding jobs and my experiences as a make-up artist.

“I enjoyed every minute; the students were amazing and I look forward to seeing them grow and hopefully see them have a wonderful career.”

Following on from this project the students went on to develop their fine talents during a fantasy themed body art session. Martinez Slater (above) created a half-devil and half-angel adorned with decorative accessories.

Abbie-Leigh Statham brought a nautical feel to her work in her mermaid creation (top) with shells, netting and aqua blues and greens.
