International Clean Up Mansfield Day will take place on Wednesday, 2nd April and Mansfield District Council wants your help to make it bigger than last year.
More than 30 groups across the district and one in Mansfield Park, South Australia, joined forces to help make Mansfield the cleanest place in the world at last year’s first event.
More than 200 bags of rubbish were collected in one day and the effort won a community award from the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.
Groups from six Mansfields in Australia and America have expressed an interest. The Corner House Care Home, Mansfield, was the first to sign up after residents said they enjoyed last year’s event. Schools including Eastlands Junior School, Meden Vale, and businesses such as Asda, of Forest Town, have pledged support.
As well as litter picks, people are encouraged to get creative and take part in projects that will improve the environment in the long-term. This could include planting trees or flowers, making birdboxes and taking part in environmental awareness-raising activities.
Last year pupils created wildflower meadows, designed litter bins, wrote litter bug poems and decorated fabric shopping bags.
