Charity rowers Oar Blimey backed by Stags owners

Transatlantic charity rowers Oar Blimey were given a £5,000 donation from Mansfield Town FC owners John Radford and Carolyn Radford, through The Radford Foundation.
Oar Blimey — Mansfield brothers-in-law George Nelson and Russ Davis — rowed unsupported from Portugal to the Caribbean, completing their remarkable 98-day challenge earlier this year.

The duo, who are Stags supporters, wanted to raise awareness and money for dementia charities, in particular Vicky McClure’s Our Dementia Choir, which rehearses at Portland College, and Ladybrook Enterprises in Mansfield.

George is pictured being presented with a cheque for £5,000 from the foundation by Stags chairman John.

“A massive thank you to Mansfield Town for their generous donation of £5,000 towards Oar Blimey in aid of supporting those living with dementia. We will make sure we put it to good work to help people with dementia locally,” said George.

The Radford Foundation was started in June 2013 by the football club owners, who said they wanted to give something back to the community.
