Chairman’s charity cheque cheer

The chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council signed off from his year in office by handing over more than £3,650 to his chosen charity.

Coun John Allin raised £3,652.50 for Rainbows Children’s Hospice during his 12 months as chairman. Rainbows cares for terminally ill children from across the region, including Nottinghamshire.

The money was raised through a variety of events and activities over the last 12 months, including a Christmas tree recycling scheme run by waste contractor, Veolia, staff events including a Great Notts Bake Off and dress down days and a Christmas raffle.

Counc Allin has also acted as a an ambassador for the hospice at a variety of other events – including starting a Santa Run at Rushcliffe Country Park and a fundraiser at Belvoir Castle.

Coun Allin said, “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the people of Nottinghamshire, County Council employees and local businesses who have supported me in fundraising for such a fantastic cause.

“I’ve visited the hospice three times during the last year – it is a fantastic place. They go to amazing lengths to ensure that the extremely ill children they look after receive the very best care and attention. They deserve every support in their incredible work.”

Counc Allin was succeeded as chairman by Coun Pauline Allan at last week’s council AGM. Coun Allan was the former vice-chairman. The new vice-chairman is Counc Sybil Fielding.
