Smart help for IT cadets

Posted onPosted on 9th May

An IT education provider has launched a new project thanks to donations from a digital poverty campaign.

Smart Digital, through its strategic partnership with The Musketeers CIC and #WeMakeICTPossible, gave Raspberry Pi systems to Mansfield and Ashfield IT Cadets to create magic mirror photobooth systems.

IT Cadets aims to ‘provide fun and education for in-demand skills that aren’t being taught in schools, but are what future and employers need.’

David Marriot, founder of IT Cadets, said: “This is very welcome. The donation of Raspberry Pi computers enables us to keep raising the bar of what we can teach and coach the cadets, whilst ensuring our cost for the training remains viable for parents with tightening budgets.

“The cadets and myself are indebted to the continued support from The Musketeers and now Smart Digital.”

Shirebrook-based Smart Digital launched a ‘Walk The Walk’ campaign earlier in the year in a bid to get other local businesses to help #WeMakeICTPossible.

It donates three devices when a new local business signs up to its services to reduce a business’s photocopying and printing costs using Canon equipment.

Scott Westwood, director of Smart Digital, added: “Through ‘Walk The Walk’ we wanted to do something different with our donations to #WeMakeICTPossible other than the standard laptops and computers.

“When The Musketeers told us about this Raspberry Pi project with IT Cadets, we wanted to get involved and support something that tackles digital poverty and enhances IT education too.”
