Plastek opens its doors to community

Posted onPosted on 8th Aug

A Forest Town manufacturer strengthened its community links through a series of visits.

They aimed to showcase more about Plastek UK, a leading manufacturer of custom injection and blow moulded components for the packaging industry, through factory tours and presentations.

Plastek also wanted to inspire the next generation and give them an insight into the organisation and types of roles available at a manufacturing company.

Eighteen students and three lecturers from Michigan State University in the USA visited as part of a week-long tour of manufacturing facilities in the UK.

That followed link-ups with two local schools — Quarrydale Academy, Sutton, and Holgate Academy, Hucknall.

Forty Year 8 students from Quarrydale, visiting as part of a careers event, took part in a practical session that aimed to get the young people thinking about the types of products made by Plastek.

Then customer service manager Danielle Harkness and project engineer Daniel Kelk took part in a skills day with Year 10 students at Holgate Academy.

They ran six interactive classes with competitions, aiming to teach students about Plastek UK as well as manufacturing processes and supply chains.

Plastek also welcomed Mansfield Rotary Club (pictured top) to showcase its work and what it can offer the community through jobs and fundraising support. The visit included a question-and-answer session.
