New truck takes to road at Taylor’s Transport

Posted onPosted on 13th Sep

Huthwaite-based Taylor’s Transport UK and International has taken delivery of a new £160,000 Volvo FH13-500 truck (above) to add to its fleet — the first of a number to be delivered over the coming months.

The replacement of the fleet is ongoing and, in less than 10 years, around 80 new tractor units and 120 new trailers have been bought.

The managing director of the family firm, Alan Taylor, said: “Keeping an up-to-date fleet and well-maintained vehicles is paramount to the business. The company keeps up to date with advancing technology and low fuel emissions at the same time.

“The new Volvo has some of the most advanced safety features road trucks have, linked to creature comforts (for drivers) such as a TV and microwave too.

“We have used Volvo Trucks now for a number of years and it is the supplier of choice.”

The mew truck took to the road on 1st September, on the brand-new 72 plate registration prefix at a cost of nearly £160,000 to the company. It was supplied by Hartshorne Group, Main Volvo truck distributors for the West Midlands, East Midlands, Shropshire, and Staffordshire.

This Volvo FH13-500 ENH2 model comes in a striking lightening grey colour with a mix of lightening grey for the sun visor, wing mirror covers, front steps trim, bumpers, bumper spoiler and lower instep box, and thunder grey for the door handles, front lid grille and lower front panel.

Chrome is used to surround headlights and indicators as well as alloy wheels to make it stand out from the crowd.

It boasts a 6-cylinder, 500 turbo compound engine with i-shift gearbox and fuel tanks taking between 300 and 690 litres.

The truck has all the usual Volvo technology features and built-in safety features, including Volvo Dynamic Steering with lane assist, EBS braking, hill start aid, and automatic parking brake release

Built-in comfort within the Globetrotter XL cab includes two beds for overnight accommodation and all the mod cons of a TV, microwave, coffee maker and fridge, to name a few.

Currently the business has more than 200 vehicles and 300 trailers. As well as the main UK distribution and road haulage side of the business, it also operates more than 400,000 sq ft of total space from 13 purpose-built warehouses, a driver training school, and an international logistics section.
