Inspirational business leader and community champion Martin Rigley has received another accolade as an appreciation of his tireless work.

Martin, chief executive at Sutton-based Lindhurst Engineering, was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Mansfield & Ashfield 2020 Business Awards, held at The John Fretwell Sporting Complex, Sookholme.

The awards, backed by headline sponsor Mansfield Building Society as well as many other local businesses, attracted a record number of entries from across the area.

Other highlights on the awards night included Your Home Care, a home care business founded by Scott Marsh and Paul Pitchford, taking home two top prizes — the Customer Focus Initiative, and the New Business of the Year awards.

It was the first time one company has taken two top accolades on the same night.

Touch of Charm, run by Kelly Wilson, won the Entrepreneurial Spirit title, after having previously taken home a highly commended award.

This year’s awards was also the first time that the Commitment to the Community category had two winners — Elizabeth Orridge Photography (small business) and Mansfield Building Society (large business).

Charity of the Year was Portland College, while Young Apprentice of The Year titles went to Georgia Thompson (TFGM) and Michael Nock (Yusen Logistics).

The Excellence in Innovation and Design Award went to Mayborn Group, and Cowens Group was named Business of the Year.

Three highly commended awards were presented -— Personnel Solutions (Business of The Year), Juice Stored Energy (Customer Focus Initiative), and Staton Mortgage and Protection Specialists (New Business of the Year).

Martin Rigley said: “It was a very humbling experience to be recognised by my peers at the 2020 Awards with the Outstanding Contribution Award.

“It was especially poignant, having come through Covid when all businesses have been working to support each other.”

Martin said he didn’t do his work for awards or accolades, but simply because he loves the area he lives in and wants to give something back.

Gary Jordan, chair of Mansfield & Ashfield 2020, said: “What a spectacular night. After online events, it was amazing to get back into the real world and be together to celebrate the best in local business — people who are making a difference.

“We had some fantastic entries and some wonderful, inspiring winners who more than ever before are showing that the Mansfield and Ashfield areas really are special places to live in and work.

“Huge congratulations to Martin, whose work and commitment has been so impressive over many years.”

Your Home Care director and co-founder Scott Marsh said: “Personally, this is massive for us, but I dedicate it to our staff and the wider workforce from the health and social care sector who always work hard, but even more so over the past 18 months.”

Commitment to the Community (small business) winner Elizabeth Orridge said: “When the world seemed to stop for so many, the Mansfield community came together to help people. I was happy to play a little part in that, so this award is for everyone who helped.”

Entrepreneurial Spirit winner Kelly Wilson added: “I have an amazing team, including friends and family, that has helped me to keep going.

“It’s not been easy having a full-time job and trying to keep the business going, so I am delighted to have won this award. Thanks also go to my clients who have been wonderfully supportive.”
