A group of companies focused on fire doors is planning for growth following its move to new premises in the Ashfield area.

Entrepreneurs Kieran Percival and Ian Maciejewski set up Fire Door Specialists (FDS) six years ago, and until recently operated out of premises in Derbyshire.

FDS, which inspects, supplies, installs and maintains fire doors, door sets, and associated ironmongery, now turns over £2.4m.

Their two other businesses, Doorcerts, and FD Supplies, turn over more than £200,000 between them.

Kieran and Ian have plans for growing their businesses, with FDS itself projected to hit the £4m turnover figure by the end of 2023.

The businesses have just moved into 13,000 sq ft of former engineering premises at Brierley Park Close, Stanton Hill, with staff installing state-of-the-art CNC machinery, reconfiguring office and reception space, installing racking, and creating spray booths.

It’s a move that now sees 17 people working at the site, although there are plans to employ more people as the businesses grow.

Kieran said: “We’re delighted to have found premises that were ideal for our purposes, and a site that is back in Ashfield, where Ian and I live.

“As our UK-wide reputation has grown, and we have added some major names to our client list, our businesses have seen excellent growth.

“But we cannot stand still. This move enables us to take the next step in our plans, which could see us take on more people.”

The companies owned by Kieran and Ian have clients that are in the public and private sectors, and include everything from care homes to local authority buildings and hospitals, and from office blocks to multi-million-pound manufacturing sites.#

Ian said: “There are a lot of regulations around fire safety and fire doors, and it is important to get things right. After all, it could be a matter of life and death.

“But, there are quite a few misconceptions about fire doors and what is correct. As experts in the field, as people who adhere to the very highest of standards, we are helping people to fulfill their legal and moral duties.”
