Chamber welcomes cash boost

The Government has today allocated a further £22.2m worth of funding to projects which support economic growth and job creation across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The additional funding will be given to and distributed by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership as part of the Growth Deal it agreed with the Government last summer. It will bring D2N2’s total Growth Deal allocation to date to £196.2m.

George Cowcher, Chief Executive of the East Midlands Chamber – the Chamber of Commerce for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire – said: “This is a significant allocation of extra cash into D2N2’s single pot of Growth Deal Funding and will be welcomed by local business.

“It will enable the LEP to make further investments in schemes and initiatives which encourage job creation, skills development and economic growth, including facilities which will help to train the next generation of engineers, in improved transport links and in creating the infrastructure required to help growing businesses reach the next stage of their development.

“D2N2’s enhanced Growth Deal will have a positive and practical impact on the regional economy, helping to protect existing jobs, drive job creation and – most importantly – support private sector growth and investment at what is a crucial time for the economy.”
